Jekyll has the EDGE
The most popular products in Jekyll’s range of industrial modems are those that use the GSM/GPRS network for wireless communication. Jekyll’s engineers have worked to ensure that customers can take advantage of the GSM platform, the leading global mobile standard, spanning 210 countries. According to www.wirelessintelligence.com, GSM technology is in use by more than one in five of the world’s population.
Development on GSM has not stopped and GPRS is now available with almost every GSM network. Based on Internet Protocols, GPRS is a connectivity solution providing moderate speed data transfer. It is widely referred to as 2.5G, a technology between the second (2G) and third (3G) generations of mobile telephony.
Also available is a radio based, high-speed mobile data standard - EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution). In effect, EDGE is a bolt-on enhancement that provides up to three times the data capacity than GPRS, with speeds of up to 200 Kbytes per second.
EDGE allows the delivery of advanced mobile services such as the downloading of video and music clips, full multimedia messaging, high-speed colour Internet access and e-mail on the move.
